Design + Build

Full in-house renovation

Our complete service, and the reason Block House exists. Design and construction happen under one roof, so the drawings, the budget, and the finish decisions are made together from day one — and managed in-house by our own team, with trusted licensed trade partners for electrical, plumbing, and HVAC.

Will leads the drawings, planning, and job site. Maddy leads the architectural interiors. Together we take a home from first sketch to final walkthrough, matching the quality and detail that have kept these houses standing for a century.

  • Drawings, planning & permitting
  • Architectural interior design, finishes & lighting
  • Cabinetry through our Conestoga dealership, assembled and finished in our own shop
  • Construction led by our own carpentry crew
  • One point of contact, start to finish

Best for: kitchens, bathrooms, primary suites, porches and additions, and whole-home renovations of historic houses.

Design + Project Management

We design it. Another contractor builds it.

For homeowners who have, or want to hire, their own contractor. We develop the plans and architectural interior design, then stay on as project manager so the design is executed properly. We work directly with the contractor you hire, from pricing through the final walkthrough.

Because the design comes from a builder's perspective, it's drawn to be built: realistic about structure, materials, and what an older house will and won't allow. And because we manage the project, the details drawn on paper are the ones you end up with.

  • Floor plans & project drawings
  • Layout, materials, finish & fixture selections
  • Cabinetry and millwork design
  • Coordination with your contractor and their trades
  • Site visits to keep work true to the design

Best for: homeowners who already have a contractor they trust, or who want an independent design and project lead working on their side.

Renovation Consultations

On-site assessment & guidance

A walkthrough of the house with a builder who has spent fifteen years in high-end restoration and historic renovation. We look at the structure, the systems, and the possibilities, and give you a candid read on scope and likely cost before you commit.

It's especially useful before you buy — a way to understand what an old house will really take, and whether the numbers make sense.

  • On-site visit and walkthrough
  • Assessment of condition and scope
  • Budget perspective and priorities
  • Guidance on next steps

Best for: prospective buyers and investors, and owners deciding what to take on first.

Our standard on every job

Timeless style and quality materials meant to last multiple generations. On a historic home, that means matching the original integrity that carried it through its first hundred years. On a new build, it means the same mindset from the ground up.
